You are invited to join us in honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the  26th All Peoples Celebration.  This celebration is a unique and powerful program that coalesces and vitalizes San Diego.  The event includes a seated brunch and will take place Monday, January 20, 2014 from 10:00-11:30 am at Public Market in historic Barrio Logan.

This year, we are thrilled to welcome Emmy and Peabody winning journalist and renowned author Alison Stewart  as our keynote presenter.  Ms. Stewart is a captivating speaker and co-founder of  NPR’s The Bryant Park Project, with a rich journalistic career that includes anchoring major events from Hurricane Katrina to the Virginia Tech shootings and reporting live from the World Trade Center on 9/11.   Most recently, Ms. Stewart wrote “First Class: the Legacy of Dunbar, America’s First Black Public High School,” the highly acclaimed story about the institution that produced some of the most distinguished pioneers of achievement in the 20th Century.

The All Peoples Celebration is held on the morning of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday each year and brings together business leaders, educators, public officials, students, labor organizers, and social justice advocates as we renew our commitment to Dr. King’s legacy and to a better San Diego.  The celebration includes a Community Space that provides free access for the public and features information about local social justice organizations.

The theme for the 2014 All Peoples Celebration is “I Have a Voice.” The program will feature extraordinary speakers, multi-media presentations, and local musical and spoken word entertainment as we commemorate the 50th anniversaries of the 1963 March on Washington and the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.  This year we are thrilled to introduce a National Day of Service Project, providing opportunities to get involved through advocacy and education.
