#Justice4EarlMcNeil
Police Brutality is still very much present in our communities of color. Tasha Williamson( lead organizer in the #justice4EarlMcNeil case) and Bishop Bowser are both members of Community Assistance Support Team (CAST), have worked consistently in our community on issues surrounding law Enforcement and their unjust was of treating and killing people of color in our communities. Join us this day as they host our next RJC meeting and help us gain more insight on Earl’s case and other issues that affect our people of color in San Diego.
Tragedies with questionable circumstances involving police aren’t common, but they’re also not rare. It’s long been obvious that the best possible response from police agencies and the elected leaders who oversee them is to release all relevant information as soon as it is available — not to try to manage controversies. If autopsies or video from body cams or dash cams reflect poorly on officers’ conduct, delaying the release of the information won’t lessen its sting; it will only add to problems by creating or confirming the impression of a cover-up.

Yet in the tragic case of Earl McNeil, those lessons are being ignored by officials in National City. The 40-year-old ended up dead after being arrested on May 26 outside the city’s police station. The officers who came outside to speak with McNeil after he called a dispatcher said he was talking irrationally and appeared agitated, then became combative when they attempted to detain him. He was placed in a stiff nylon blanket restraint known as the Wrap and later suffered what police called “medical distress” while being examined by paramedics at the county jail. He was taken to a hospital, where he died June 11 after being taken off life support.
