About this Event
HBCU Alumni, Students (current & incoming), Family and Supporters, join HBCUASD for the 3rd Annual HBCU Back to School Cookout. We are excited to host this in the Heart of District 4!!
This is our annual sendoff of the incoming freshman class (2023) of Our Greatest Jewels, Historically Black Colleges & Universities.
Our current students (co 19-22), who DARED TO BE EXCELLENT & earned a 3.0+ GPA for the Spring 2019 semester, will also be honored and recognized.
There will be good eats, music, HBCUnity and Pride!
The NAACP San Diego Branch, in partnership with the Diamond Educational Excellence Partnership (DEEP) will host a Back to School Stay in School Rally, STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, and Math) Fair, and Summer Time is Reading Time in the Diamond Closing Event on Saturday, August 17, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Malcolm X Library.
The NAACP Back to School/Stay in School program was launched in 1984 as an effort to inspire youth to develop academic skills, and to achieve perfect attendance records. This is a free public event that will consist of various educational activities, workshops, vendors, entertainment, and much more. We encourage all attendees to participate in the various aspects of this event, as to get the full experience of this event.
Come and learn how the “achievement gap” hinders your student from overall access and opportunity in life. Discover the best free public education options to support your child’s learning. Learn how to make informed decisions that give them the greatest possible outcome in life. Making sure that every child succeeds and thrives no matter their skin color or zipcode.

ACT-SO is hosting a unique crash course designed to challenge your thought process and make writer’s block a thing of the past. Though our scholarship program targets African-American high school students, people of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to join us! Don’t worry about materials; all supplies will be provided and distributed after a quick lunch to start off the class.
