“Black Poets Then and Now” presented by Dr. Janice K. Neal-Vincent, Virtual Book Toasters Speaking Series, Community Library Mississippi. A look at black poets and their impact on social justice and society Community Library MS Zoom link then and now.
Join host Aladdin “Prince of the airwayz” of 93.9 Wkys for a virtual book reading and Q&A from four dynamic authors: Brandon Burke, Dr. Art Fields, Aleka Melson and Derrick Jakolby Washington. These authors have recently published books on a variety of topics, all with the connecting thread of empowering our community. The stories they will share are targeted to people of all age groups from children to adults and showcase the power that our voices matter and must be heard. Learn what motivated them to share their stories, how you can purchase a copy of their books and how you can stay connected to each author.

The free, one-hour virtual event will take place on Zoom on Dec.16 at 7:00pm ET. You will be provided the link once you register for the event. During the event, each author will select a portion of their book to read to viewers and viewers will have an opportunity to ask the authors questions using the chat feature in Zoom.
Join us for an engaging virtual event with poet, author and director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, Kevin Young. Moderated by UC San Diego Foundation Board Trustee and UC San Diego Alumni Board President Kimberley Phillips Boehm ’82, PhD, the discussion will explore Young’s career, including his most recent work, “African American Poetry: 250 Years of Struggle and Song.”
