This emotionally-charged drama centers on Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro baseball leagues who later works as a garbage man in 1957 Pittsburgh. Excluded from the major leagues during his prime because he was Black, Troy’s bitterness takes its toll on his relationships with his wife and his son, who now wants his own chance to play ball, in the play that won two Tony Awards, two Drama Desk Awards, and The Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

FENCES will be directed by Antonio “TJ” Johnson, who received a San Diego Theatre Critics Circle Craig Noel Award for Outstanding Direction for his collaboration on Intrepid Theatre Company’s 2017 production of FATHER COMES HOME FROM THE WARS, PARTS 1, 2, & 3. Johnson has assembled a cast of San Diego all-stars to bring Wilson’s words to life.
