4th Annual San Diego Veg Fest!
The event for Southern California’s animal lovers, health conscious hipsters, and forward-thinking folks continues as a downtown, San Diego celebration of plant-based foods, empowering music, specialized speakers, and interactive activities for all ages! Join us for a day of compassionate, veg-friendly fun!
This year also includes a vegetarian and vegan-focused night market and live entertainment program. The veg-night market is a unique take on the traditional tent-style setting, but with healthy foods made from plant-based oils and plant-based sources.
Informative sessions feature speakers traveling from many parts of the West Coast and even the Midwest to share expert tips on plant-based living. See you there!

This year’s event marks the 100th Birthday for Mrs. Hamer and we plan to do it right on Friday, October 6th, 5 pm to 8 pm, at the Jacob’s Center San Diego CA. We will honor the life, legacy and lessons of Fannie Lou Hamer, civil and human rights leader and food justice pioneer while enjoying the locally sourced cuisine and culture.
This event as in previous years will celebrate the intersection of farming, health, activism, art, and education; and will honor local “heroes and sheroes” helping Project New Village make a difference for foodscape of
Southeastern San Diego (SESD).
Celebrating Activism, we will feature
The Fannie Lou Hamer Legacy Exhibition Gallery;
Food insecurity resistance programs; and
In collaboration with the San Diego Food System Alliance, we will share current food justice victories
championed by activists and political leaders
We are celebrating with Artistry featuring
A marketplace where local artisans and educators share their talents and wares;
On stage performances featuring a mix of talented local artists coordinated by the muse Salon Collaborative, a non-profit organization that supports artists and cultural activities that expand the narrative in society through community dialogue, collaborative productions and creative consultancies.
An exquisite culinary experience prepared by Kitchens for Good, a social enterprise that provides culinary job training for the unemployed and healthy meals for those that need it most; and coordinated food presentations /contributions from local school culinary programs, local food growers and other local food businesses.

This year our honoree will be Ms. Thella F. Bowens, past President/CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. After 15 years of leadership, Ms. Bowens retired on March 31, 2017.

Sir Mix-A-Lot (sirmixalot) parlayed a gonzo tribute to women with large buttocks into hip-hop immortality. But even before he struck crossover gold, he was one of rap’s great D.I.Y. success stories. The Grammy award-winning emcee co-founded his own record label, promoted his music himself, produced all his own tracks, and essentially pulled himself up by the proverbial American bootstraps.
