We are excited to announce that the San Diego Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (San Diego NAACP) will host its annual Freedom Fund Dinner on Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Kona Kai Resort & Spa located at 1551 Shelter Island Drive, San Diego, California. The theme for this dinner is “Moving Forward Together For Justice and Equality.” We would appreciate your financial support of this important event to help us carry out the mission of the NAACP to “ensure, the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.” Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation’s oldest, largest and most effective civil rights organization. We need your help to respond to assaults on human and civil rights that we face at this time including, but not limited to, police brutality, voter suppression tactics, inadequate health care and educational inequities.
As we commemorate 52’ years of advocacy in the North County, the North San Diego County branch of the NAACP celebrates its Annual Blue & Gold Freedom Fund Awards Gala held at the Carlsbad Sheraton 5480 Grand Pacific Dr., Carlsbad, CA 92008 on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 7:00 pm. We invite you to join us as we honor the selfless efforts of those who’ve contributed to the betterment of this community.
The success of our organization’s outreach efforts to empower this community and eliminate disparities is largely dependent upon businesses like yours. The infamous Funk Soul Social returns with a very special edition that is sure to revive those old school feels featuring Rap legend Sir Mix-A-Lot known for hits like “Baby Got Back,” “Posse’ on Broadway” and many others. Sir Mix-A-Lot (sirmixalot) parlayed a gonzo tribute to women with large buttocks into hip-hop immortality. But even before he struck crossover gold, he was one of rap’s great D.I.Y. success stories. The Grammy award-winning emcee co-founded his own record label, promoted his music himself, produced all his own tracks, and essentially pulled himself up by the proverbial American bootstraps. Even before “Baby Got Back,” Mix-A-Lot was a platinum-selling album artist with a strong following in the hip-hop community, known for bouncy, danceable, bass-heavy tracks indebted to old school electro.

Take a world tour through 6000 years of African world history with the NAACP San Diego branch ACT-SO program! The house of the Moorish King is open to visitors for a thorough education (or re-education) of the rich history of Africa and its contribution to today’s society right in beautiful Old Town.
This tour will take place in 2 parts. One part through the museum and the other through Old Town. A light snack will be provided prior to the event and dinner offered following the tours. Get your name on the list ASAP to have your door fee, snack, and dinner covered by the NAACP.
